On the evening of the 22nd, Beijing time234livebaccaratJulian Howard, chief investment director of GAM Multi-Asset Solutions, said on Wednesday that Fed officials seemed to "have no idea" of what was happening in U.S. inflation.

His comments came as Fed monetary policymakers have been urging patience with interest rate cuts in recent weeks. They believe that inflation has fallen less than previously expected and is still too sticky for the Fed to continue promoting loose monetary policy.

"I think the message they're sending is that they don't know anything," Howard said.

The Fed declined to comment.

Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller said on Tuesday that he needed to see further statistical evidence that inflation was weakening before backing a rate cut.

"Without significant labor market weakness, I need to see a few more months of good inflation data before I can confidently support a loose monetary policy stance," Waller said at an event at the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington.

Waller's comments were echoed Tuesday by other Fed officials, including Boston Fed President Susan Collins.

Collins said: "I think the data is very complex... This will take longer than I previously thought. We are at a time when patience is very important."
